Using the atlas
- Zoom with the mouse wheel, a pinch, or the ladder at bottom right. The world map becomes realms, then regions, then town streets, then a pixel-art battle map with 5-ft squares, drawn for every town, road, coast and forest.
- The side panel is your atlas: start at the world's realms, open a realm to list its capital, cities, towns and villages, then open a place. Every place has its own Overview, Market, People and Guilds tabs, and the breadcrumbs at the top take you back up. Tapping a town on the map opens it here too. Hide the panel with the button beside Help to give the map the whole window; on a phone, the handle under the map gives either more room. Each place opens with At a glance: its market, danger, quest board and people (tap one to jump to it), what is happening there today and who is in charge. The World page starts with Today and Jump back to the places and people you opened last.
- The calendar sits at the top of the side panel: Play lets time run, or step a day or a week.
- Map tools sit along the top of the map: Select, then Settle, Road, Paint, Tiles, Label and Measure add your own places, routes, terrain, battle maps and notes. Their options open in the side panel; press Done when finished.
- Tiles paints the battle map square by square: ground, props such as tables, beds and campfires, and walls, doors, windows and fences along the grid lines. Fill a patch, or drag out a whole building. Players see your changes; undo works per stroke.
- Market runs a live calendar. Every town prices real Player's Handbook goods, mounts and magic items, and wars, bandits, famine, plague, trade booms, festivals and feasts push prices around. Press Play to let time run. The Shop tab prices all 588 SRD items for the town, and works out the inn bill. On the Shop tab, pick a hero under Prices for to buy and sell for them: each kind of goods has a real seller whose feelings about the party move the price, the hero can haggle with each seller once a day, and shops hold a week's stock that runs out. Thieves' Guild members find a black market at the bottom. On the Town tab, star a good to watch it on the World page, and fund trade caravans to neighbouring towns.
- People shows each town's notable residents: jobs, families, rivalries, secrets, motivations and what they are doing today. Log the party's dealings with them and track the ones that matter. Group them by household, see where everyone is at any hour (Activity → Around town now), and read each town's Chronicle, written day by day. Every named place, from the palace to a cobbler's shop, shows what's happening there at dawn, morning, midday, afternoon, evening or night: who is in, the town's events, the season, something overheard, and the places around it.
- Guilds runs the Adventurers' Guild: quest boards in every town with a danger rating for your party, NPC companies, and ranks from Copper to Adamantine for your party. It also shows how the town's organisations get on, and what its powerful people are pushing for. Heroes can join any organisation in a town, from their sheet or the organisation's page: each has a fee, monthly dues, four ranks and benefits that fit it, such as member prices on the Gear step, better selling prices, lodging, healing, authority or a fence.
- Heroes builds play-ready characters from the System Reference Document 5.1: race, class, background, scores, skills, gear bought at your hometown's live prices, and spells. The sheet rolls anything you tap and tracks hit points, slots, rests and level-ups; register a hero with the Adventurers' Guild to take quests. Tap Quick build for a complete level 1 character. The sheet's Downtime section spends days crafting, working, training, researching, carousing, serving a temple or recuperating, at the town's prices and with your guilds' help. Heroes using the 2024 rules choose from the SRD 5.2 spell lists.
- Monsters shows creature groups living in their natural habitats, plus rare wanderers and haunts. They appear and move on over the weeks, while lairs stay for months. Place your own from the Bestiary (all 334 SRD creatures with full stat blocks, or a custom one), track each creature's hit points and initiative, and mark them slain. Monsters near a town raise its danger, which brings more monster quests, bigger rewards and higher bounties on the Market's Bounties tab. Zoomed out, nearby groups gather into one marker showing the most dangerous of them, with a count; tap it to zoom in.
- Links Underlined names go somewhere: towns, realms, people, organisations and events all open their own page and move the map to them. Press the open tool again, a tab you are already on, or the – button to fold the panel into a slim bar; tap the bar to bring it back.
- Measure gives distance and overland travel time between any two points.
- Everything saves in this browser. Use World → Copy map code for a backup. Undo with Ctrl+Z. World → Recent changes shows who changed what; at a shared table it lists everyone's changes with their name.
